How to Score in AILET 2023?
- National Law University Delhi is one of the prestigious law schools in India, and the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is a national-level exam conducted for its admission process. AILET for the academic year 2023-24 is on December 11th, 2022.
- In this article, we will discuss the admission test for the UG program. NLU Delhi offers a BA LLB program and has 110+ seats in the merit quota. There are at least 15000 test takers from across India. Most students, who are aspiring to top law schools through CLAT, take this law entrance exam too.
- The test is for 1.5 hours, and it is a pen-and-paper exam. However, the pattern for the admission test into the UG program BA LLB offered by NLU Delhi changed in 2022. The current test pattern includes three sections.
- Section A: English Language (50 Questions)
- Section B: Current Affairs & General Knowledge (30 Questions)
- Section C: Logical Reasoning (70 Questions)
- Each question carries 1 mark for a correct answer, and a negative mark of 0.25 for an incorrect answer.
- Previously, in 2021 and before, there was a quantitative aptitude section. But, now it isnt mentioned in the current test syllabus. Also, earlier a separate section for Legal aptitude existed.
- But now, Legal principles may be used in the Logical reasoning section. Here, it tests logical aptitude, but any kind of legal knowledge or technical understanding is not required.
- If two or more students score the same mark, then the rank is decided based on the highest score in the logical reasoning section. If the tie still exists, then it is based on age or later through a computerized draw. Hence, students try to score as much as possible in the logical section.
- Preparation for CLAT 2023 helps students in tackling AILET 2023 too. The Conceptual knowledge gained and skills mastered in CLAT preparation, will be helpful here too. Previously when AILET was not heavily passage-oriented, students felt it was a little more comfortable exam than reading intense CLAT. However, the 2022 paper surprised students with more reading than expected. Students taking the test should keep a few pointers in mind regarding their preparation and planning.
- The first thing to remember about AILET is it is a 90-minute exam, and 150 questions to answer. It is like a race against the clock. On top of this, it has a negative marking. So, it can be easily concluded that AILET needs speed, along with accuracy.
- To gain speed students have to work on their reading skills. The one with great speed and appropriate interpretation can score better in the Logical and English sections. Mock exams and practice tests will also help students.
- The second thing that helps students, is picking the right section and the right questions to start with. A quick look at the overall paper, and then starting with the less time-consuming questions will help. Students should ensure to check the entire paper before time is over.
- English language in AILET has always been interesting. There were questions based on Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading comprehension previously. The questions would look familiar however, they were asked differently. Match the following, Error Corrections, Word usage, Multiple blanks etc were interesting. Words were simple and familiar but sometimes had fine distinctions. However, in 2022 the paper was heavily dominated by passages. A total of 9 passages were asked each of different word counts. The number of questions per passage was varying too.
- The paragraphs were interesting. They were excerpts from articles, interviews, comparison of multiple books etc. Using the regression technique, the students are advised to work with those passages that they feel comfortable with and take less amount of re-reading.
- The purpose of the passage
- Contextual vocabulary – mean ings or antonyms; phrases and idioms
- Information about the content in passage
- Inferred questions, assumptions and conclusions, supporting and opposing statements to context in paragraph
- Tone of the passage
- Title of the passage
- Ailet english section, though it looks simple it is sometimes tricky. Students get confused with options that are close. Careful reading and elimination of options aids the score. A score of 35 + in this section was considered a good score in 2022.
- This section requires students to think critically and logically. Questions from critical reasoning and a few analytical reasoning are expected. Questions which are of legal reasoning and aptitude type can also be asked in this.
- Syllogisms and deductive reasoning
- Statement based questions like assumptions, conclusions, course of action, assertion reasoning, arguments, cause and effect and others
- Paragraph based questions on assumptions, conclusions, infer ences, supporting and weakening arguments
- Principles and argument based
- Sometimes, even concepts you are familiar with and confident might appear to be confusing in the exam. You need to deal with it with a cool head. Preparation for the CLAT reasoning section may help you to solve these questions too. A total of 70 questions come from this section, and a score of 50 + can be a good score. The more you score, the better.
- This section takes less time to solve, but depends heavily on the students knowledge. Students who read the newspaper regularly and remember important current affairs can score more here. Before the exam, ensure you definitely revise the most important news in the current year. Revising the monthly news updates will boost the score.
- Unlike CLAT which has paragraphs, in AILET it has one liner statements. To score high in this section students have to be aware of important news in the year. A wide range of National and International topics were asked previously. Questions on Sports, Awards, Books, Culture,Science and technology, Important events, Important days etc can be asked.
- Solve quickly and answer as many as you can. The more you score the better. At Least 20 + marks should be targeted from this section.
- In 2022, students who scored above 95+ had high chances of securing a seat in the first allotment itself. As mentioned above, AILET needs speed. So maximum attempts with the most possible accuracy will boost the total score. The higher the score, the better the chances are in bagging the top seat.
