- This section measures the writing skills of students. The tasks are designed to evaluate if students can analyze and think critically. Their ability to express complex ideas clearly with apt examples and reasons is also tested.
- The overall quality of your essay is evaluated in terms of the relevance of your response and expression of your ideas. In addition to this, the structure of your answer, the examples used, and the clarity and accuracy of your language also matter.
- A sample pool of topics is available on the official portal. Practise a good number of tasks and get your responses evaluated by your trainer or faculty to help you boost your overall performance. Avoid spelling and grammar errors. Prepare a draft or outline, before you start writing your response.
- It has 2 sections, each with 20 questions and for 30 minutes.
- This section has three question types: Reading Comprehension, Text Completion, and Sentence Equivalence. About half of the questions require you to read a passage and answer the questions that follow. For example, you may have to analyse the given content, summarise, conclude, etc. The other half of the questions need you to understand the given sentences or group of sentences and complete them
- Reading Comprehension:The test contains approximately 10 passages. The word limit of the paragraphs varies from one paragraph to several. The number of questions may range from 1 to 6. These texts for passages are taken from different topics like sciences, social sciences, business, arts and humanities, and everyday topics.
- Within reading comprehension, you can have three question types. They are: Select a single answer – these are the regular MCQ questions; youll select one answer from among five answer options; Multiple-choice Select One or More Answers Choices – Three options follow each question; you have to select all those that are right. No partial score. Select-in-Passage – You will have to select the sentence in the passage that is a suitable answer. If its a lengthy passage, sometimes this question is active in only one or two specified paragraphs.
- Students from any background can solve these passages as they can find answers based on the given information. You do not need to use any external knowledge. Identify the passages main idea and observe the information or evidence given and its significance. You can easily master this section.
- Text Completion:. Crucial words from a paragraph or sentence will be omitted. And based on the given information, you must choose suitable words to complete the sentence/ paragraph. This question will have one to five sentences and one to three blanks. If it is one blank, there will be five options to choose from; if it is two or three blank questions, then each blank will have three options. You will have to find clues from given sentences and choose the correct option. The sentences tone, punctuation marks, conjunctions, additional details in the given text, etc., will help you find clues. Your vocabulary knowledge will come in handy in eliminating the options. If there are multiple blanks, you can fill them in any order. Ensure that your final answer is logically and grammatically appropriate.
- Read and Revise words daily. Then, learn to use the words in sentences.
- Sentence Equivalence: This question type consists of a single sentence with just one blank, and you have to pick the two choices that lead to a complete, coherent sentence that means the same thing. You have to choose from six options. Both the options that you chose have to be correct. you do not get partial credit.
- Read the given sentence, and guess a suitable word that is completed. Do not blindly pick two synonyms from the options, as it may be a trap for you. Focus on the structure of the given sentence, and find clues that suggest a word that completes the sentence.
- It has two sections. Each section has 20 questions and a 35 minutes duration.
- This section has Quantitative Comparison Questions, Multiple choice questions with select one answer or select more answers, and numerical entry questions.
- A few questions can be discrete questions, while others are a part of a set of Data interpretation questions.
- To solve quantitative comparison questions, first, understand the given question and options. Simplify the equation or equations if needed. Try the substitution technique if its required. The images may not be drawn to scale.
- For Multiple choice questions, read the question carefully, and be accurate with your calculations. Sometimes working form options also help. You may have to be good with approximations.
- In Questions with select one or more options, do pick all correct answers; sometimes, if your answer falls in a range (like the highest and least value), it may help you verify from the given options.
- Numerical entry type questions- this requires you to answer as an integer or a decimal in a single box or as a fraction in two separate boxes. Do check if you are asked to round your answer. Be careful with units like miles etc.
- Data interpretation sets may be tables, graphs etc. Question types can be MCQ or Numerical entry. Focus on the data required for you to answer the given questions; if the graph has a scale given, note it.
- This section asks questions from Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Data analysis predomi nantly. Brush up your concepts, and you can easily score great marks.

- The validity of GRE scores is 5 years from the date of your test. You can take the GRE multiple times and send the score of your choice. You can retake after a gap of 21 days and a total of 5 attempts in a year.
- The questions in the next section of Verbal or Quant will appear based on your performance in the first attempted section. There is no negative marking. So, to maximize your final scores, attempt as many questions as possible. There will also be one unscored section.
