Get ready to fly abroad
Indian parents believe education is the key to success. Many move to cities for better opportunities or education facilities. Similarly, many students are planning to study abroad. Our country has many premier schools and colleges which are renowned across the globe; however, it is a supply-and-demand situation. During the pandemic, there were travel restrictions, but now things seem to improve.
Like any other admission into an educational institution, studying abroad also involves many aspects to consider. But, first, let’s understand why someone wants to study in a foreign college.
Decisions need careful conside ration. You cannot do it, just because others are into it. You cannot mistake it to be easy, as it needs preparation too. It might seem easy because of the number of universities available; however, choose your university carefully. The rankings of the universities matter.
Ask yourself if you know the reasons for your desire to study abroad, and remember them till you accomplish it.
Studying abroad gives you a global perspective. You meet people and students from different nations. You may have to learn another language or understand other cultures.
The majority of the universities abroad provide opportunities to work while studying, internships, on-campus jobs, etc., to help you gain experience.
The academic and infrastructure facilities may be great.
The course you are interested in and the university that provides it matter a lot in your selection of schools. Not all universities offer the same. The opportunities in your field of study in terms of schools or jobs matter when you take the decision. Fee structure will be different too.
A degree from a university might improve your chances of getting a job. However, if it is within the same country, job permits, etc need to be considered.
You can improve your commu nication skills and become more adaptable to new situations.
If you are clear with Why abroad? Then start working on What to do? How to do? When to do it?
Country & Course
The Indian diaspora is spread across the world. Every year Indian students fly to different destinations to study: USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany etc. The first thing to consider is the course that you want to take and the country that you want to go to. Think of your long-term plans before you decide on the country. For instance, a degree from a US university may put you in a better position when you are applying for a job in the USA. The country, the climate, the lifestyle, the expenses, etc matter. Choose the course you are interested in. It should be relevant to your education goals and give you better options in the future. Research the universities offering the particular courses and plan.
Admission Cycles and Exams
Universities abroad take admission in multiple cycles. For instance, Fall, Spring, and Summer. Be aware of the admission deadlines before you start your plan. It varies across countries and universities.
Every university may have different eligibility criteria for admission. The exams that you need to take and the academic qualifications you require have to be according to the eligibility criteria for admissions. Your percentages and scores have to be above the cutoffs. A few universities may be liberal in this aspect too, but other conditions or criteria may be in place.
The exam that is required depends on the country and university of your choice. However, the following is a list of the most common entrance exams written by students who are interested in studying abroad.
