Concord: Agreement of the subject and the verb
We sometimes say that a sentence is correct, sometimes incorrect and sometimes grammatically wrong, most of the grammatical errors occur when the verb does not agree with the subject.

For example
Children is going to the park (wrong)
Children are going to the park (Right)
-The first sentence is incorrect because the subject (children) is plural and the verb (is) is singular and there is no agreement between the subject and the verb.
SINGULAR and PLURAL
-When the subject in a sentence refers to one person or a thing it is said to be a Singular subject. A singular verb is used when the subject in a sentence is Singular.
Example:
Anitha is a writer.
A child likes to play with toys.
-Verbs ending with s are singular (looks, eats, sleeps, works, wears, this, that, etc)
Usage of One/ones.
-One indicates singular and ones indicate plural.
a) Which one? = Which book?
One= book/boy/girl/etc

Examples:
This one/ that one
Which book is yours? This one or that one?
(this car or that car )

The plural of a noun is usually S
Singular (= one) Plural (=two or more)

Some of the following words are plural in English, Such as
Scissors, glasses, trousers, jeans, shorts, tights, pyjamas.
-Do you wear glasses
-Where are the scissors ? I need them
-We can say
A pair of scissors
A pair of trousers
A pair of pyjamas

Some plural do not end in, -s :
This man these men
A women some women
A child many children
One foot two feet
A tooth all my teeth
A mouse some mice
That sheep those sheep
A fish a lot of fish

people and police is plural:
A lot people speak English
The police are here
a) a/ an &. One

This cup is dirty. Can I have a clean one ?
-that chocolate was nice. Im going to have another one
b) Which ones ? = which flowers ?
(one = flowers/ cars/ girls etc.)

Examples :
These/ those ( usually without ones)
which flowers do you want ? these or those ?
(next usually these ones/ those once )

-My shoes are very old. Im going to buy some new one.
III. The pronouns I and we are treated as plural subjects.
-I read the newspaper daily.
-You always play well and everybody enjoys it.
IV. When the subject in a sentence refers to more than one person or things it is said to be a plural subject.
-Children like to play with toy. (plural subject )
-The students are playing football. (plural subject)
V. Indefinite pronouns such as anyone, everyone, someone, no one, nobody are always singular and therefore require singular verbs.
a) Use of some in positive sentences.
-Im going to buy new books.
-There are some books in the shelf.
-We did some exercises.
b) Use any in negative sentence.
-Im not going to buy any books.
-There isnt any book in the shelf.
-We didnt do any exercises.

1. Shivani didnt take any photographs but I took some
2. Wheres your luggage ? I havent got any
3. Do you need any money ? No, thank you I ve got some
4. Can you lend me some money ? Im sorry but I dont have any.
5. The tomatoes in the shop didnt look very bad, so I didnt buy any
6. There were some nice oranges in the shop, so I bought some.
